Why people move here

The case for Cyprus

  • An EU island with some of the warmest, sunniest weather in Europe.
  • English is very widely spoken, a legacy of close historic ties with Britain.
  • A favourable non-dom tax regime and a flexible 60-day tax-residency rule.
  • A dedicated digital nomad visa plus straightforward residency routes.

Cyprus has quietly become one of the Mediterranean's most practical bases for remote workers, retirees and investors: an EU island where English goes a long way and the sun shines for most of the year.

Is Cyprus right for you?

If you want warm weather, an EU base, a light-touch tax regime and a place where English is widely spoken, Cyprus is worth a serious look. The island is small, the pace is relaxed, and the cost of living outside the smartest coastal spots is reasonable.

Pick the path that matches how you earn and what you bring:

Frequently asked questions

What income do I need for the Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa?

As of 2026 you need a net income of at least €3,500 a month, with more for a spouse and each child. It is for non-EU nationals working remotely for employers or clients based outside Cyprus. The scheme runs to a cap on the number of permits, now 1,000 in total, which the government reopened and extended in 2025, so check current availability before applying as it can fill up.

How does residency by investment work in Cyprus?

The fast-track permanent residence route requires investing at least €300,000 (plus VAT) in new property, Cypriot company shares, or investment funds, and showing secure annual income from abroad of around €50,000, with more for dependants. It grants permanent residence, not citizenship, and processing is quick, often around two months.

How long until I can get Cypriot citizenship?

The standard route is 7 years of lawful residence within the previous 10 years, including the 12 months immediately before you apply. Highly skilled workers can qualify faster, in 4 to 5 years, if they reach the required level of Greek.

Does Cyprus still sell passports?

No. Cyprus abolished its citizenship-by-investment programme, sometimes called the golden passport, in November 2020. Investment now leads only to permanent residence, not citizenship.

Does Cyprus allow dual citizenship?

Yes. Cyprus places no restriction on holding more than one nationality, so Americans, Britons and others can naturalise without giving up their existing passport, subject to their own country's rules.

Is Cyprus in the Schengen Area?

Not yet. Cyprus has been an EU member since 2004 but is not yet part of Schengen, though it is actively working toward joining. For now it runs its own short-stay visa rules separate from the Schengen zone.
